So, there is only one measly little half day left of students. I have survived. We will play “Heads up, Seven Up” for most of the morning, pausing only to wash the desks and eat lunch. Then I will hand out the report cards, say goodbye, and…rush into the void of NOTHING TO DO. Well, I have to sit around eating and talking to the other teachers until 3pm, but then…nothing.
Actually, I have a lot of cleaning and trip preparations to make since I haven’t been able to bring myself to do anything except read the Times and eat dinner for the past few weeks. Although this afternoon I bought lawn chairs to put on the “grass area rug” (aka astroturf) that we bought this weekend at Home Depot. We spent happy hour up on the roof living it up like an old Italian couple.

Only 3 more days left of school, and then I am free! I am going to bum around New York for a week, and then I am heading out to say good-bye to everyone. I should be in Chicago by July 8th, then Madison; Kearney, NE; Denver; and back again. If you are around those parts and want to host me for a night (or grab coffee during the day) drop me a line. I am especially excited to see Madison folks again after a year of absence.

For those of you who haven’t heard yet, I am fleeing the metropolis next year and heading to Honduras to teach science to local middle schoolers in Copan Ruinas (look for the tree marked Ruinas de Copan on the map below). The school is called Mayatan, and it is a private, non-profit K-9 school. I’ll post a few more updates throughout the summer, but the really interesting stuff will come after August 7th, when I arrive in Copan for my “cultural orientation.”
